This evening BBC Inside Out South started their new season with a half hour programe featuring the illegal importation of rescue dogs and puppies from the Republic of Ireland. This programe featured Dorset Dog Rescue just one of the many UK rescues that either travel to the Republic of Ireland themselves or have dogs and puppies delivered to the UK where they are met and transfered to their vehicle in a service station.
It was suggested by Inside Out that Dorset Dog Rescue receive 80 dogs and puppies a month in this manner where they charge £200 per dog or puppy.
Since 2012 all puppies and dogs imported from the Republic of Ireland are classified as an 'economic activity' if they are not owned by the importer and offered for sale or rehoming. They must also be transported under the EU Legislation called the Balai Directive. Dorset Dog Rescue does not comply with this Legislation and therefore is importing dogs and puppies illegally.
When questioned Julie Liddle the founder of Dorset Dog Rescue failed to reply to questions asked as can be seen in this link on iPlayer available for the next 29 days. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04xy12q/inside-out-south-12012015
The programe also highlighted a Great Dane breeder who registers puppies with the Kennel Club but also imports illegally puppies to resell again not comply with the Balai Directive or in possession of a pet shop licence to enable them to sell puppies they have not bred themselves.
Perhaps the Authorities will make a full investigtion into the illegal activities of Dorset Dog Rescue and the dog breeders the Sibleys of Hampshire who both believe they are above the law.
Welcome to my blog
For years I have campaigned against puppy farming, dealers and pet shops, in fact any outlet that is involved in the breeding and selling of puppies by third parties. Why you may ask? Because it is a clandestine trade that lacks public awareness and Governments fail miserably to accept that puppy farming resulting in puppy trafficking is detrimental to animal welfare. Through my thoughts on my blog I will highlight some of the daily happenings from my perspective as a campaigner against the puppy trade.
